Text: Ezra 7:6-10
Why was God with Ezra?
He Set His Heart
- Ezra was able to please God because he made a conscious decision to do so
- Pleasing God does not happen by accident (Matthew 7:13-14)
- We must make a daily choice to follow God or not (Luke 9:23)
He Studied the Law
- He was “skilled in the law” (v. 6) — only comes through diligent study
- We study today to produce faith (Romans 10:17) and to discover God’s will (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)
- How to approach the Bible
He Practiced the Law
- God expects obedience from His people (Hebrews 5:9)
- We are told to be more than hearers — we must be doers (James 1:22)
- The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous (1 Peter 3:12) — we become righteous by practicing righteousness (1 John 3:7)
He Taught the Law
- In order to teach, one must first have a good understanding of what he is teaching (1 Timothy 1:6-7)
- We must teach as Ezra taught (Nehemiah 8:8) — read, explain, cause them to understand
