Practice of the Lord’s Supper
- Emblems – unleavened bread (Matthew 26:17), fruit of the vine (Matthew 26:29)
- Time – first day of the week (Acts 20:7)
- Frequency – every first day of the week (we learn this by implication)
- Time Frame – from the establishment of the kingdom (Matthew 26:29) until the second coming of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:26)
- Place – in the assembly (1 Corinthians 11:17-20,33)
Abuses of the Lord’s Supper
- Making it into a common meal (1 Corinthians 11:20-22,34)
- Adding things to it (singing, testimonials, etc.)
- Changing the focus (resurrection, second coming, our lives as Christians, etc.)
Purpose of the Lord’s Supper
- Memorial of the death of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:26)
- Remember His body – sufferings of Christ
- Remember His blood – how terrible sin is
