Text: Psalm 34:8-14
The Lord is Good (Psalm 34:8,10)
- This psalm opens with David praising God (v. 1-3) – Why? … The Lord delivered him (v. 4-7)
- The Lord, by His very nature, is good (1 Chronicles 16:34)
- The Lord desires our good (Jeremiah 29:11)
- The Lord has the power to do good (Hebrews 7:25)
- The Lord has provided every good thing for us (James 1:17)
Fear the Lord (Psalm 34:9,11)
- It is important that understanding the goodness of God is balanced with the need to fear God
- God expects His people to fear Him (Ecclesiastes 12:13) – He will reward those who do (Acts 10:34-35)
- The fear of the Lord is to be taught from an early age (Psalm 34:11)
- Two sides of fear – terror (2 Corinthians 5:11) and respect (Hebrews 12:28)
Who Desires Life? (Psalm 34:12-14)
- Keep your tongue from evil & your lips from deceit – heart must be right (Proverbs 4:23); we must love the truth (2 Thessalonians 2:10)
- Depart from evil & do good – repent of sins (Acts 17:30); obey God in all things (Colossians 3:17)
- Seek peace & pursue it – peace with God (Ephesians 1:7); peace with man (Romans 12:18)
